New Book, Disappearing Doors Released

Tulsa, Oklahoma (Web.com) July 20, 2007 -- P.L. Clemons, owner and newly elected CEO of River's Bend Publishing, announced the release of their new book, Disappearing Doors.

In her statement, Ms. Clemons said: "River's Bend Publishing selected Disappearing Doors to be our first release because of the timeliness of the subject matter. The story, a part of the life of Darlene Wallace is about violence in the home. Domestic violence is a problem that has risen to dramatic proportions in the United States and many other countries around the world.

"Although we are aware that much has been written about this subject, very little has been done about it. Only one TV Channel even begins to address this horrible problem, and very little else is said about the rise of abuse in this country among teens, young marrieds, people who have been married for a long time, domestic partners and the elderly. In other words domestic violence effects every segment of the population.

"There are little if any kinds of education processes, there have been no changes of laws and certainly very little if any education is offered for those in the judicial system. More often than not the abuser is given a stern warning by the Judge and then sent home to abuse and violate his victims again and again until many of the victims are murdered by these abusers. This must stop.

"The laws should be clear and should be made on a National Level not a local level. The Justice system needs to be taught that domestic violence is not a family matter, but a legal matter. Those who police our streets, the Judges who review these cases, everyone should be educated about this problem!"

Ms. Clemons went on to read an excerpt from the book:

"The room was too bright....Darlene blinked her eyes trying to adjust them to the light, then she heard voices. She couldn't recognize them. She heard voices close to her and a man leaned over smiling, she didn't know who he was....Hell! She didn't even know who she was..."

This begins her story...Darlene had lost 35 years from her memory and you go with her on the journey to find herself, and why she was in this room.....

Darlene's story is the true story of a woman who lived through a nightmare of domestic violence, being kidnapped by her husband's family and finally being thrown down a 125 foot cliff. This new book that we are releasing today tells her story.

"What is it like to find out that you have been in a horrible relationship, survived that and then be the victim of hired murders?

"We know all the stats about domestic violence, but when I read the story of this woman's life I was amazed to find hat her husband was the minister of a Church. I was even more surprised to find that some churches teach that the husband is the absolute head of the houshold and that he was free to do what he wished in regards to what happened in the house. That is; if he wanted to beat the wife, and beat the children that was ok, and his call. Women are taught that they are really worthless, and they cannot have an opinion, own anything, have any money of their own or in some cases they are not allowed to work outside the home and if they do the money that they make goes to the husband, not to them. They have freedom.

"This woman was the victim of her husband for years and not able to tell anyone or have any friends. She rarely even talked to members of her own family. Her story should touch all of us. And we should realize that her story can be your own sister's story, or your mother's story or worse...your own story.

"This book should serve as a wakeup call for all of us."
