Home Based Business Entrepreneurs Must Decide if They Are a Growth Maven or Lifestyle Guru If They Want to Succeed, Says Author of New Book
New York (PRWEB) March 27, 2008 -- Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.com, started his home based business (www.TheHomeOfficeFromHellCure.com) in his garage, with a couple of computers stacked on desks that were made from doors he purchased at Home Depot. It was a humble beginning, but his work from home business, fueled by long hours and a genius for picking up on market trends, was making $20,000 a week in just two months.
Most work from home businesses won't see this kind of success but as Jeff Landers points out in his book, "The Home Office from Hell Cure: Transform Your Underperforming, Time-Sucking Home-Based Business into a Runaway Success," many entrepreneurs aren't looking to become the next Jeff Bezos.
"Some entrepreneurs are planning to launch their business into the stratosphere, but others are simply hoping to be their own boss, make their own decisions and run their business their way," says the author. "Either way, you can't have the business of your dreams unless you know who you are and what you really want."
Landers deals with this in his book by asking entrepreneurs to take a short quiz that will help them decide which type of home based business entrepreneur they really are. Then, based on their answers, entrepreneurs can determine if they are: A Lifestyle Guru, who wants to make a low to mid six figure salary, have a flexible schedule that allows for more time with family and leisure activities and continue working from home or a Growth Maven, who aspires to move into a real office, hire staff and grow her business into a much bigger and more profitable enterprise.
Landers then provides a different path to success for each of these two types of work from home (www.TheHomeOfficeFromHellCure.com) entrepreneurs.
Some examples of questions he asks his readers are:
1. How do you most define your professional success?
a) Building a major business and a legacy, respect of colleagues, financial independence and wealth, opportunities to use your position and wealth to make a difference in the world.
b) Independence, challenging and creative work, time with family and friends, a secure and consistent living, service in the community.
2. I am more comfortable in a working environment that is ___________
a) Formal. I prefer designated spaces for employees, clear boundaries between staff and management, a conference room for meetings, a receptionist to greet guests and a clear beginning and end to the workday.
b) Informal. I prefer to multi-task, moving between personal and professional obligations as they come up, work in my pajamas or sweats (except when going out to meet clients), create a workday time schedule that corresponds to the needs of my family and my clients even if that means working at odd hours in the middle of the night or on weekends.
"Knowing which type of entrepreneur you are will make it much easier to build a business that fits your ultimate goals and desires," says Landers, "I mean, an entrepreneur who wants to spend more time with his wife and kids is not going to be happy working 90 hours a week, no matter how much money he has in the bank."
Landers stresses the importance of work from home entrepreneurs knowing what they want to get out of their home based business because he believes they have a better chance of having a successful business and life if the business is living up to their dreams and expectations.
About the Author Jeffrey A. Landers has more than three decades of business experience. He is a serial entrepreneur who has founded five companies and has been advising small businesses since 1988.
