Today, they share a healthy rivalry due to their geographical proximity. Both the teams play in the NBA Western Conference's Pacific Division.

During the early 1980s, the Clippers roster had veterans like Norm Nixon, Swen Nater and Bill Walton, along with the talented youngsters Tom Chambers and Terry Cummings. In 1986, ex-LA Lakers player Elgin Baylor was hired as their general manager and he rebuild the team, which saw many trades and top draft picks. Five years down the line the team posted a win-loss score of 45-37, under head coach Larry Brown and with that sale of Clipper tickets started an upward trend. Danny Manning and Ron Harper were invaluable to the team in 1980s; they led the team to many playoffs. But as Brown left the club in mid 1990s, they crashed to the bottom of the Pacific Division.

The 2005-06 season was a turning point for the team's overall image. A hot start marked by several wins over top teams caught the attention of many fans and Clippers tickets again started to sell like hot cakes. But they failed to keep the mark in the next season, finishing in fourth place in the Pacific Division and missing the playoffs.

Right now harboring many raw talents, The Clippers are a club jumping back with promise. They have Elton Brand, who is famed as Western Conference's best big man. He is said to be competent of scoring twenty points and ten rebounds every match. This gives a lot of strength to the team. Mike Dunleavy, who was once NBA Coach of the Year, has joined them too.
